Cheese and Celery Bites recipe

Preparation Time: 10 minutes | Cooking Time: 10 minutes

These simple cheese and celery bites are the perfect canapes for any party. Bread is fried until crisp, then topped with a lovely mixture of butter, cheese and mustard and shredded celery.

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices white bread
  • 120g gouda cheese, grated
  • 3 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. mustard
  • 4 tbsp. shredded celery
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp. oil + 1 tbsp. butter

Directions:

  1. Melt oil and butter together in a frying pan. Fry the bread slices on either side until golden. Drain of excess fat on kitchen paper.

  2. Meanwhile, combine the cheese, butter and mustard. Spread onto the bread slices. Slice each bread slice into triangles and sprinkle with the shredded celery. Season with salt and pepper.

These bites work best when the bread is still crisp from being fried. You can make the recipe in advance, just skip the fried bread part. Recipe serves 4.
